Unsure if you’re really ready for your next eye check up? Check out the list below to ensure you will get the most out of your eye check up:

What do you need to bring?

  • Wear your eye contacts or eyeglasses. These can be used by your doctor to assess your current prescription.
  • A list of any over-the-counter medications you have taken previously that may provide insights to your doctor in assessing your eye condition.
  • If you are changing doctors, the name and address of your previous eye doctor.
  • A list of questions you want to ask the doctor; having a physical list or even notes on your phone can help especially if your memory sometimes fails you.
  • You can bring a friend if it makes you feel more comfortable. You can get the most out of your eye check up if you are feeling your best.

What does the doctor need to know?

  • Any eye-related symptoms that have bothered you prior to the eye check up, such as headaches, eye pain, vision issues, light flashes or floaters, or light sensitivity.
  • Family history of eye diseases or other eye issues, so your doctor can rule out possibilities of genetic eye conditions.
  • Your preferences in terms of eyewear, stemming from your daily habits and responsibilities. Say, you are working in front of a computer all the time or you feel uneasy with eyeglasses and prefer eye contacts.

What do you need to know?

  • Your current eye condition and the steps you can take to improve them
  • The do’s and dont’s of taking care of your eyes and eyewear
  • Medications that you need to take if advised by the doctor
  • Your next eye check up schedule

Sounds a little daunting? It shouldn’t! Remember that your eye check up is an essential step in taking care of your eyes. It may not be as exciting as playing with friends or watching a movie, but it is an important task for you to take so you can enjoy these activities in turn. Playing with friends, watching a movie, eating at a restaurant – all these you can enjoy better if your eyes are at their best.

So better keep an eye out for your next eye check up!
